A couple more . . .

How could I have forgotten Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry??? I adore this book; it very well might be my favorite of all time. It's a western, of all things, and tells the story of a group of misfit cowboys who drive a herd of cattle from Texas to Montana in the later nineteenth century. Another epic of a book - I believe it's over 1000 pages. I've read it twice and I think I'm due to read it again.

Also, East of Eden by John Steinbeck - loved it, loved it.

  1. A lot of your faves are mine too...East of Eden, Kite Runner, Poisonwood Bible. I'm going to do this favorites post too. Um, after my kid stops crying. And after dinner. So probably tomorrow.

  2. Have you read Midwives? That was a great book too. I think it was an Oprah selection way back when....

  3. Jennifer, yes, I've read Midwives twice - once about 10 years ago, and once a little over a year ago. It was interesting how my perspective on it changed; the first time I read it, I had only had one baby and it was in a hospital, and I wouldn't have dreamed of having a home birth back then. The second time I read it, I had one home birth under my belt and was anticipating my second home birth.

Anyway, it was a good book, but I really like the true midwifery stories (i.e., memoirs) the best.
